Captains,
The events of the last few days have seen our golfing world radically changed for the foreseeable future.
Therefore, and on behalf of the Committee I have some information to pass on to you. It will be also published on our website and the key points communicated to the other parties with whom we have fixtures. These arrangements will be kept under review and confirmed, or changed, later in the year.
We are now formally cancelling all the inter-county matches up to the beginning of August 2020. We will arrange any inter county matches if possible, from 1 August onwards. We would need to re-offer the places for any external matches and to be fair, give priority to those who had previously put down for that match. We will also seek to replicate the 2020 fixtures in 2021; i.e., what would have been a home match in 2020 will be a home match in 2021, This keeps the hosting payments in sync, for when we entertain at home.
If it proves to be possible, we will arrange one or more internal meetings – Spring Meeting style – later in the year. Indeed, we are still planning to go ahead with the “Captain’s Day” event at Long Sutton Golf Club on 25th July 2020. This will be our first event of the season – if it goes ahead. Similarly, at this stage, we are still planning to go ahead with the Autumn meeting at Worlebury Golf Club on 24th September 2020
The Committee nominations for the 2020 season are as follows:-
President – Mike Usher-Clark, Worlebury Golf Club
Vice President – Bob Acland, Mendip Spring Golf Club
Captain of Captains – Stephen Butterfield, Cannington Golf Club
Captain Elect – Rob Ford, Long Sutton Golf Club
Secretary – John Beer, Taunton Vale Golf Club
Treasurer – David Andow, Weston super Mare Golf Club
Fixtures Secretary – Roy Parmiter, Long Sutton Golf Club
Co-opted member – David Bate, Mendip Spring Golf Club
We intend to operate with these nominations and seek your formal affirmation, at the earliest opportunity. Equally I would have announced at the AGM, that the Committee have resolved to operate in smaller teams to expedite business, and that will come into effect. Equally the Committee will use email and video conferencing to keep up to date and make whatever decisions need to be taken until face to face is possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our officers for their efforts on our behalf, and make two particular mentions.
Jim Scott, who has been our Secretary for the last two years is standing down and on behalf of all Captains I would like to thank him for his service to Somerset Captains.
John Beer, served with great distinction as our Captain of Captains. He was a superb ambassador for Somerset Captains and his raconteurial skills, a delight. John has also succeeded me as webmaster, and managed to combine that with the Captaincy. We are lucky that John has agreed to take over our Secretary role and I know we can look forward to support and administration of the highest level.
If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please address them to secretary@somersetgolfcaptains.co.uk
On behalf of the Committee I wish you the best of health for yourself and your loved ones and look forward to seeing you on the course again as soon as we are all allowed.
Mike Usher-Clark
President,
Somerset Golf Captains
