As we, hopefully, emerge from the rainiest winter I can remember, I thought I should remind you all about what is coming up for SGC this year.
ANNUAL DINNER
Our Annual Dinner is now fully booked and we look forward to seeing 126 members and SGC invited guests at Taunton Rugby Club on Friday 1st March.
As a reminder, the evening starts at 7.00 for 7.30 and it is a black tie event. I will be bringing some SGC Bow Ties on the night for those who don’t have one. The cost is £10 which I would prefer you to pay by BACS rather than cash!
On that point – PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RUGBY CLUB ARE RUNNING A CASHLESS BAR SO BRING ALONG A VALID CONTACTLESS CARD FOR YOUR DRINKS!
SPRING MEETING AND AGM
The tee times are filling up for our Spring Meeting at Enmore Park on Thursday 11th April. Just drop me an email to the usual address and let me know if you wish to play with another SGC Captain and your preferred tee time (from 1030 to 1140 on a two tee start basis). The AGM will follow the golf and details of the business to be covered will be sent out in good time for the meeting.
MATCHES AND OTHER FIXTURES
As advised on the web site, the fixtures for 2024 have been posted on the website with a full list and an ics file for importing into a computer/smartphone calendar at: https://somersetgolfcaptains.co.uk/news/provisional-fixture-list-2024/
This year, all players should register their interest on the Somerset Captains Website under the Fixtures tab – https://somersetgolfcaptains.co.uk/events/categories/fixtures/ which opened on Feb 1st.
If you wish to play in a match, then click on the underlined fixture and then click on the box marked ‘REGISTER YOUR INTEREST’ near the bottom of the page.
Members are advised that the timetable for selection for 2024 will be as follows:

Feb 1st 2024 – Registration opens

12 noon March 31st 2024 – Registration closes
Registration for the Spring & Autumn and the Captain’s Invitation meetings will be completed under a different system and I will contact you by email to arrange the tee times etc.
The Selection Committee meets during the first week of April. Emails will be sent out to all members with team selections for 2024 w/c Monday 13th April.

GOLF APPAREL
New Caps, short sleeved Rain Jackets and long sleeve and sleeveless jumpers have been ordered and will be available, along with a range of sizes of shirts, at the Spring Meeting and most of the early fixtures.
The new jumpers are quarter zip style and a modern cotton mix rather than wool. They are Devon and Stanley models which can be found on the Glenmuir web site. I will have a range of sizes for you to try before ordering.
Our dwindling stock of woolen jumpers needs to be cleared so I have been directed by the Exec Committee to sell them at a much-reduced price at the Spring Meeting. If you are not coming to the meeting, then drop me an email and I will see if I can find something for you!
MATCH MANAGERS
The Exec Committee has agreed to invite some new Match Managers to join the fold. I will be in touch with those who have already expressed an interest over the next few weeks. If you want to help and haven’t contacted me yet, please do so soon.
