Somerset Golf Captains regrets to announce that George Matthews passed away peacefully, following a short illness, on Tuesday 25th March. He had been a member of Clevedon Golf Club for 63 years having joined in 1962. George was one of Clevedon’s longest standing Past Captains and was still arranging Clevedon’s Past Captains annual dinner. He was still playing for SGC in 2008 at his home course against Gwent which is the last match report we can find that he played in.
Our thoughts and condolences go to George’s family and friends on this sad occasion.
The Funeral will be held at Weston Crematorium on 23rd April 2025 at 11.30am followed by the wake at Clevedon Golf Club.
