Somerset Golf Captains have been supporting Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) this year with the ambition of funding two free PSA testing days at Mendip Spring & Saltford.
The second main fund raising event was held the day after the Autumn Meeting on October 8th. Our Captain of Captains Marcus Woodward held his annual charity Texas Scramble at Saltford Golf Course, choosing the SPSA as the main charity to benefit.
124 players, in thirty-one teams, played & in the end there was only one shot between the top four teams. The MOPPsters won with a nett 53 beating the West Wilts Wanderers on countback. It was so close that it went to the last hole on calculations!
Many Somerset Golf Captains played or made donations, & we were joined by Tony Boulton, Wiltshire Captain of Captains, who brought 3 teams. Jim McKenzie the Cornwall Captain of Captains and Tristan Hicks the Club Captain of Carlyon Bay both organised vouchers for the auction and made donations.
Several Somerset golf clubs also contributed prizes for the auction, including Mendip Spring & Oake Manor. The auction was superbly run by Norman Pascal, a past Castle Combe Captain.
The current total raised is £3,721 of which an amazing £2,821 will be passed to the SPSA, £700 for Alzheimer’s Research UK & £200 to Dorothy House Hospice.
For men aged over 40 book your free PSA test on Sunday April 4th here. This is the same day as the Perpetual Trophy is being played at Saltford – more details to follow in the New Year.
