The annual 6 Counties event was hosted by Cornwall this year and took place at Launceston Golf Club on Wednesday 27th May. The weather was spectacularly hot – around 30 degrees but the mild breeze later in the afternoon made the conditions more bearable.
The organisation by the Cornish Captains was first class, with Launceston pulling out all the stops to make the event a success. Particularly impressive was the fact that the Club closed the course to allow a two-tee start (1st and 11th), condensing the start times to just over an hour, so minimising waiting time for everyone. This was especially appreciated by those who had traveled a long way. The local teams, Devon and Cornwall, teed off first, their pairs playing against each other, followed by Somerset and Dorset & finally, Gloucester and Wiltshire.
The course was in excellent condition & even playing off the yellow tees, presented a tough challenge to all competitors. The food was great too!
The Captain of Cornwall Captains made the presentation towards the end of the meal, again to assist those with longer journeys. The format was six BB pairs from each county, with the best five scores giving the team total. The sixth score was ‘discarded’, only to be used if there was a draw.

5th Cornwall 185 points
4th Wiltshire 188 points
3rd Gloucester 190 points
The Cornwall Captain, then, kept the room in suspense, by announcing the best overall pair score –47 points by the first Cornwall 1 pair! The second highest score was 43 & three pairs scored 42 including our own Kevin Blakeley and Andrew Cardus-Hall.

1st Dorset 197 points
The enjoyable event finished just after 5pm.
