Oake Manor was the venue for this year’s Captains Invitation Day. The day will be remembered for the clear blue skies, superb course conditions, great food & some outstanding golf from both the Captains & their Guests.
Seventy-two players took to the course with the Guests featuring six Pros. Sadly Captain of Captains Marcus Woodward was unable to play on the day due to a ‘football’ injury, but he was on hand to help with proceedings.
As you would expect the scores were high – & extremely close.
The winners on the day were Wells Golf Club members Erica Klim with her Guest Michael Metcalfe with a stunning 47 points.
Oake Manor locals John Beer & Pamela Akers were hot on their heels with 46 points, & in third place with 45 points, were Clive Stilwell & Catherine Kromholc from Weston-super-Mare GC.
Places 4 to 6 were decided on count back with all three pairs scoring an impressive 42 points!
4th place went to Worlebury’s Martin Morgan & his Guest Ian Saynor from Clevedon. Saltford players Dave & June Boulton took 5th with Pete Pritchard & Toby Wheeler, both from Cannington, in 6th place.
The quality of the nearest the pins was equally jaw-dropping with the Captain’s NP on the 14th going to Phil Hodge from Enmore Park. Guest David Baker, Long Sutton, almost scored a hole in one on the 16th to leave the ball a whisker from the hole.
The Pros had the honour of aiming for nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th & it was the last Pro in, Luke Collins from Mendip Springs, who secured the victory.
