Dear Captain,
The 2025 season is now officially over and, like most of you, I am left wondering where the time went! It seems only last week that we met up at Minehead for our Spring Meeting and AGM.
I will leave the details of the 2025 playing campaign to our Captain of Captains to tell you about in his Annual Dinner and AGM speeches but suffice to say it has been a mixed bag as always. Our thanks go out to all the Somerset Clubs that hosted events in 2025 and to the many Captains who represented Somerset in matches and Trophy events. Somerset Golf Captains only exists for you to enjoy the friendship that comes from playing with like-minded golfers who have also been Club Captains and of course enjoying the hospitality and off-course camaraderie.
I have a few points to raise with you before you forget about SGC for the winter.
ANNUAL DINNER
Our 64th Annual Dinner will be held on Friday 6th March 2026 at the Holiday Inn at Taunton, following what was a very well received event in 2025. Detailed arrangements will be sent to you all nearer the date and we will, as usual, ask your SGC Club Dinner focal point to work with our Dinner Project Leader – David Bate.
Accommodation at the Holiday Inn is available for you to book directly with the hotel, although, due to the current pricing policy, there is no discount being offered for SGC dinner attendees. The cost of rooms will most likely change as we near the date and you may find that late bookings are cheaper. SGC cannot guarantee that of course!
2026 AGM AND SPRING MEETING

Our AGM will be held on 7th April at Enmore Park and will not be part of the Spring Meeting at Saltford on 30th April. This is so that we could move the golf date without delaying the AGM if Spring 2026 weather works against us, as it has in the past.
SELECTION 2026

Selection will follow the same process as last year. You will be able to use an on-line availability form which we will issue in early 2026 and we will make it clear when the window for submission will close ahead of the selection meeting on 2nd April 2026. We will ensure that the form makes it clear that you must click the submit button as there were a few issues this year.
FINALLY – SGC SECRETARY POST

I intend to step down as SGC Secretary at the 2026 AGM having done three years and the SGC Exec Committee is seeking a volunteer to take over. The role has been made easier over the last few years as we now have a web site manager which reduces the workload considerably. On top of that, I am very willing to continue managing the SGC clothing “shop”. And I will, of course, offer a comprehensive handover and help the new Secretary find their feet.
If you are interested in finding out more about the role, please contact me by email initially at the usual address (secretary@somersetgolfcaptains.co.uk) and I can arrange to talk it through with you and let you have the detailed job description which the Exec Committee has approved.
Kind regards
Clive Stilwell – Secretary, Somerset Golf Captains
