Presidents Cup 2022

Presidents Cup 2022

Fourteen past Captains of Captains assembled at the Mendip Spring Golf Club for the annual “Presidents Cup” competition. A fine, dry day with a light breeze and, once the sun had joined the party, a perfect day for golf.

Brian Reeves set the early pace with birdies on the 1st and 3rd holes. Multiple past winner George Davis was hot on his tail, closely chased by Colin Davies and Mike Usher-Clark.

The back nine proved decisive with Mike Usher-Clark holding his front nine form to come home with 36 points, evenly scored over both nines. A back nine charge by John Beer brought him into contention but a very steady round from Colin Davies ending with 35 points was just enough to take second place on countback from Bob Acland in third.

The team competition was well contested, but a team of recent President’s Cup winners, Iain Robertson, George Davis and 2022 winner Mike Usher Clark proved to be the strongest on the day.

Congratulations to all who took part and to Mike Usher-Clark who will hold the Presidents Cup until next year at Long Sutton.

The captains were joined by past Captain of Captains Frank Ryan for the post-match dinner; a meal enjoyed by all, with great company and the usual banter.

Past Captains of Captains attending: Mike Usher-Clark, George Davis, Iain Robertson, Stephen Butterfield, Chris Warcup, David Andow, John Beer, Colin Davies, John Chillington, Rob Ford, Jim Scott, Brian Reeves, Roy Parmiter, Frank Ryan and President Bob Acland.

Apologies were received from Trevor Jenkins, John Vernon, Ben Glidden and Andy Carter

Thanks to Mendip Spring for hosting the event and providing excellent service.
